Christina and I originally planned on cycling a small section of the South Downs we missed last time around. The South Downs way is an iconic but tough MTB route.
Clearly this particular section of the route is jinxed for us as we had to cancel due to heavy rain and high winds. So instead we caught the train down to Brighton on Friday & cycled up to Lewes and then did another section of the South Downs Way from Lewes down to Eastbourne (which we had done before) today.
Absolutely perfect cycling conditions - cold but sunny and dry and no wind. South Downs never fails to impress! Just stunning in every direction. Some tough climbs today including Farle Beacon & climbing up around the long man of Wilmington.
Down then to Eastbourne which is the official end of the Trail, but then we decided to cycle on a further 20 miles to our accommodation in Whilchelsea. This route is a beautiful cycle following the coast almost the entire way on Sustrans NCN2. Mostly cycle path or very quiet roads.
48 miles and 3700 feet of climbing today although honestly it felt like 98 miles! Tough but beautiful day. 😎😍🚴 🏔
