7 days of cycling - 515km of riding and 13,000 feet of climbing.
The last 3 days of cycling have been epic. The rain is gone, gone, gone and we’ve had wall to wall sunshine.
Thursday did see a strong headwind though - a 60 mile ride through beautiful quiet lanes down to Santa Maria for coffee and then one of the most beautiful sections of riding with spectacular views of of the mountains down to Lloseto for lunch then back down through the Campanet lanes to Alducia. Such a brilliant ride.
Friday saw us all tackle Cap de Formentor, which is known as the Lighthouse Ride and is one of the most iconic rides in Mallorca. There is a reason why it is so iconic. The route from Pollenca out to the headland and back is only 36 km, but do not underestimate that 36 km - with over 1000 m of climbing it represents a true challenge, but my goodness the views are off the scale amazing. 🧡🧡 This is the second time I’ve done this ride and I would definitely do it again - absolutely beautiful coastal views, cliff faces, sheer drops, a forest, a tunnel and then the iconic Lighthouse at the end of the ride. The only irritant on this ride was the queue of cars up to the Lighthouse at the end, and this then made the descents back tricky, thank goodness for disc brakes! We celebrated this amazing ride with lunch in the Pollenca old town.
Saturday was our last day of riding so we decided to do something a little bit more gentle, so a shorter 43 mile ride down to the coast, Cala Sant Vincenc - the sea an incredible translucent turquoise. Absolutely stunning! Then a climb back inland to Muro for lunch and then descent back down to the coast to Cap Picafort.
What an incredible week, fantastic support and guiding from Ciclos Major - recommended! https://www.ciclosmajor.com
Lots of fun off the bike as well, with lovely crazy cycling buddies. Also loved my hire bike - nicknamed Jafar (due to colour!). Happy happy days indeed. Can’t wait to come back!
