First day of cycling today!! We headed off from the Lido, Venice down the island to the first of our ferries. Today is a strike day in Italy so they were very few ferries running, but we did manage to get the first one okay the second one not so easy! required some persuasion with the captain! As the normal limit is 10 bikes per ferry and they were 21 of us!
Eventually (after persuasion and a tip ) we arrived at Chioggia on the mainland and we could put our feet down and eat up some miles on the way to the lunch stop 45 miles in. Miles and miles of farmland on the floodplain. Certainly an adventure today, including having to mount a barrier with our bikes to cross a very busy road across the river and one bridge are missing on our route. đłFantastic picnic lunch stop along the river Po.
Incredibly hot đ„”
The last 20 miles into Ferrera were dead pan flat /flying along! The last 8 or so along a dedicated cycle way next to the river.,We eventually got to Ferarra, beautiful walled historic Italian city for a well earned glass of wine and amazing Italian meal. Lovely hotel! We even have a fresco on our ceiling. what a great first day of cycling. đ happy days..
