What a completely awesome day, a long day in the saddle but we saw so much and cycled on some amazing paths. 💜 Not long out of Warkworth after our overnight stay & a breakfast stop at the lovely Alnmouth, we joined an off-road section along the coast - it really was absolutely picture postcard perfect, quite literally only a few feet from the sea alongside beautiful little inlets and hidden coves and beaches. We had great weather today and the sea was absolutely glistening blue. On this lovely off-road section we could see Dunstanburgh Castle in the distance. Once we left this path and re-entered the road we went down to Caster which is a quaint little fishing village famous for its kippers! From there you can also take the National Trust path over to view the amazing ruins of Dunstanburgh castle, castle #4. We then continued on to Bamburgh, castle #5. Simply stunning 😍 Then inland continuing along NCN1 (great route BTW). We then continued on to cycle across the causeway over to Holy Island to visit the incredibly unique and special place of Lindisfarne Castle (castle #6) and Priory / what is really interesting about this, is the causeway is tidal so you have to choose your times to get across or you’ll get trapped! After exploring Holy Island we had a pint of Pagans Queen at the Masons Arms pub. It was then a short hop 15 miles back onward to Berwick upon Tweed along the most incredibly amazing off-road route through marshes and sand dunes right next to the coast / really remote and quite spectacular. Amazing!! Before our final drop in to Berwick-upon-Tweed with its beautiful river and bridges onto our hotel for the evening.
What a totally spectacular & amazing day of cycling & sightseeing 🤩🤩
